of the activities of Layla Resources Ltd


Layla Resources in the period from 1988 to 1996 has worked on a wide range of environmental issues and areas. Most of it was focused on Germany and Hungary, with the key areas covered being:-

A) Platinum Lake Technology Inc. This Canadian start-up was trying to commercialise a process to recycle catalytic convertors (grading 10 - 70 oz/t Pt).

Tasks - identify suitable European J.V. partner, prepare business plan, negotiate contracts, monitor process innovations. A West German partner was identified, the process demonstrated on-site and a J.V. agreement negotiated at Board level.

B) Bioseparation Ltd. This UK start-up was trying to commercialise a process using magnetotactic bacteria to extract Heavy Metals (Cd, Pt) from refinery waste-water.

Tasks - identify suitable J.V. partner in Europe, prepare business plan, negotiate contracts.

C) Bardon plc. This UK aggregates producer was looking for suitable acquisitions in East Germany.

Tasks - identify, visit and evaluate suitable quarries, with special focus on environmental liabilities.

D) Centurion Mining plc. This UK mining finance house wished to purchase assets in Eastern Europe.

Tasks - prepare feasability study of buying the Hungarian State Marble and Masonry company, focusing on geology, production facilities, marketing, finance and environmental liability. A business plan was prepared, a suitable J.V. structure negotiated, and finance subsequently raised in the City of London.

E) East European Trade and Development Ltd. This UK investment bank was advising the Czechoslovak Government on privatisation.

Tasks - to evaluate an aggregate company and a dolomite producer, with special emphasis on geology, technology and environmental liabilities. This was then used to subsequently prepare an offering document.

F) Trischler und Partner GmbH. This German environmental consultancy was involved in the Lower Saxony Rustungsaltlastung project (over 300 Second World War munitions sites requiring environmental assessment).

Tasks - evaluation of two sites via historical review, and a detailed ground follow-up. Preparation of report in German, and development of an Expert System to identify potential current environmental hazards.

G) Trischler und Partner GmbH. Interpretation of environmental hazards associated with WW2 Mustard Gas factory in East Germany.

Tasks - RAF Air photo acquisition and interpretation using imaging GIS and CAD software, followed up by ground truthing of anomalous areas.

H) Umweltamt Rostock-Warnemunde. This Environmental Agency needed to prepare an inventory of WW2 environmental damage.

Tasks - acquisition of suitable RAF air photography, assessment of damage to aircraft and munitions factories, using scanned images with a GIS and CAD package.

I) English Client - Digitising maps for Geographical Information System (GIS) using Hungarian sub-contractors, assessment of suitable routes for pipelines in Eastern Europe and Germany, using a GIS.
