Have I got Google News for you [Return to Top] [Go to Bottom] > Where am I? > |
Google has got a news service in "beta" which allows you to scan the web for printed news relating to various topics. The way it works is first you do a search on a topic (such as contaminated land), then you click on the "tab" at the top that says "news", and bingo you get all the stuff on the web that mentions contaminated land. However in order to stop you getting too 'sniffy' and make your life easier we have "hard-coded" a few topics for you, such as :- |

Contaminants that didn't make it into 'CLEA stars' top-ten
. [Return to Top] [Go to Bottom] > Where am I? > |
It is a sad (but happy) fact that we can't all be winners of the TV series 'Pop-idol', nor can we all be in the 'CLEA stars' listing of the top-ten alltime heavy duty contaminants. These are the contaminants that we not judged to be 'ard enough' to have either their own TV series or a CLR (Contaminated Land Report) Index Dose or Soil Guideline Value. Even so you would not want to meet them down some dark alley-way as they are still perfectly capable of 'duffing you over' and making you catch your breath as they prove to you that they can still have an adverse effect on you as a life-form.

This contaminant is not dead(ly) it's only r(u)esting
[Return to Top] [Go to Bottom] > Where am I? > |
Like the 'Norwegian Blue' Parrot that achieved immortality in the 'Monty Python' sketch, there are some contaminants that rest (as it were) on their laurels. These poor souls are the ones that mothers warn their children not to touch in case they turn into frogs. Of course the kids then immediately marinade themselves with the stuff, and feel really deprived when they don't all break out in 'ackney' (or dalston for that matter). These poor contaminats have been slagged off in DEFRA's CLR 8 publication as being somewhat feeble. In truth it is because thay are a bit 'work-shy' due to their relative infrequence of occurrence at contaminated land sites. Still boys and girls they are somewhat naughty in their behaviour so leave them well alone, so when some strange man tells you they have a beautiful 'Prussian Blue' just tell them to F.F.orf (Ferric Ferrocyanide orf)...
