Dear Micky, I am a US journalist looking for information for an article that I am writing concerning environmental health in the Balkans. Environmental health issues are things like the effects of different kinds of air pollution, heavy metals, pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals, both on the job and in general. For my purposes, the Balkans consist of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, FYR Macedonia, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia and Yugoslavia. I have a great deal of general information, much of which I obtained through the REC website, as well as WHO, UNEP, and so forth. However, I need to make contact with people who are informed about businesses being created or coming into the Balkans from elsewhere that are working on improving environmental health or that are improving the environmental practices of existing industries, such as mining. So anybody with some kind of environmental health or just environmental credentials who has been on the ground in the Balkans recently, and/or who can give me some background, history, perspective, etc.--or who can refer me to someone in the Balkans so that I could have a personal way to connect with the source--would be very helpful. I would like to conduct interview(s) via email () or phone (503) 236-9083, my deadline is September 10th. Thanks very much. Valerie Brown |
