These telephone numbers are sourced from the latest version of Environmental contacts: a guide for business (issue 7, 1997). The guide comes out annually - issue 8, (1999) is due to be published shortly!.

Major changes are expected as the former 'Department of the Environment' (DoE) has now been renamed the 'Department of Environment Transport and the Regions' (DETR).

Telephone numbers that began with 0171 276 ...., now begin with 0171 890 ..... In case of problems try firstly the DETR switchboard on 0171 890 3000.

As of April 22nd 2000, the telephone codes for London will change, but rather than have a sensible system with an '01xxx' code the system will be that the whole of London will be under the '020' code, so that
