The jobs listed in the Jobs + Careers section were either advertised on the EBM website, emailed to us, found on the Web or else located in the classified sections in various Newspapers and Magazines. The adverts on the EBM website nowadays seem to be mainly from agencies, and so we have been forced to spend more time with our library card, looking through back-copies of tabloids such as the Economist, the Guardian, and the New Scientist. Occasionally we also strike lucky with a quality broadsheet such as the Times (when someone has not nicked it for the tokens for the special offer 'Phoenix the Calf commemorative plate' - tastefully made out of bone china !)

As far as deciding what constitutes a job in the environmental sector, public perception (and political party focus-groups) seem to think that it either involves taking chewing gum off the wings of sea-birds, or else going on about how petrol prices are too cheap. But as Lennon + McCartney (or in a parallel universe McCartney + Lennon) told us a long time ago, there are an awful lot of trial pits in Blackburn Lancashire (which in turn is where archaeologists now believe is the place where the Cable TV, Gas and Water companies used to run their JCB training classes). Although the bore-holes were rather small, now they know how many civil engineers it takes to fill the Albert Hall (not to mention the Millenium Dome). Anyway back to reality, as I drag a comb across my head....... The jobs that we choose (Me and Zee-n-Bee, busted flat in Clapham Junction waiting for the train, no you are right somehow doesn't have the resonance of Me and Bobbie McGee busted flat in Baton Rouge, also waiting for a train - have Railtrack's tentacles really reached that far!) Sorry where was I? oh yes, the jobs that make it into the listings are either those that are of an environmental nature, or else the ones, that in a parallel universe, we might have ended up doing.

I mean we all know that webpages are just a glorified form of vanity publishing, you know like sorta cyber graffiti spray painting. Hang on a second mate, thats a bit harsh don't you think (just like saying the only difference between a Wombat and an Australian bloke is that the wombat takes it's boots off before it 'eats, roots, shoots, and leaves') OK so most of the stuff on the the web is either rubbish or filth, but don't forget this ia a website about contamination and pollution ! Yet maybe you do have a point, and I s'pose it is true that most webpages are the product of frustrated 'letters to the editor' writers. Afterall if the editor of the Guardian turns out not to be interested in a publishing a letter comparing the Blues Brothers (Jake Elwood et al) to the Bruise Brothers (Jags Prescott et al) why then a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do, and stick it onto his website. Whats that ?, you would have been interested in reading it !, oh you are too kind, as it just so happens I do have a copy on me, here let me show you. Hoy you, come back, come back here at once, leave that 'back button' on your browser alone......LEAVE IT ALONE !

Rumour has it that Lord Putnam has contacted Hollywood about rushing out a remake of The Bruise Brothers, starring
John 'Prescott' Belushi and Dan 'Dare' Ackroyd
Apparently the film will open to the tune of that old Cab Calloway classic "Minnie the Moocher" but this being Hollywood they plan to update the words somewhat :-

Well OK, so maybe you are right, in the cold light of day it doesn't seem quite the masterpiece it appeared to be at 3am last night, although it could probably do with a bit of reworking - maybe along the lines of 'I am the Walrus, you are the Eggman'.....
Now, if I remember correctly, you were asking what the point of all this Job archives stuff was. Well it means that you can monitor who is hiring and taking on people, and you can then scoot over to their website and see if they have any more job vacancies going, or else flog them a nice bit of kit.
